A few things to know.
LinkedIn lists 1200 x 627 as the minimum image size for its website sharing module. A normal photo post is a different use.
LinkedIn's photo guide allows shapes from 3:1 to 4:5. The square and portrait options are useful starting points within that range.
Choose large text and simple detail for work updates. Check the crop before you post; LinkedIn says posted photos cannot be resized.

Is 1200 x 627 required for every LinkedIn image?
No. LinkedIn lists that size for images in its website sharing module. Regular photo posts have separate size and shape rules. Use the square or portrait preset when it suits your photo.
Which preset should I use for a LinkedIn photo post?
Try a 1080 x 1080 square or a 1080 x 1350 portrait. Both sit within the shape range in LinkedIn's photo guide. Check that the crop keeps your full message.
Does this change the preview image of a LinkedIn link?
No. It gives you an image file. To change a shared link's preview, the website you share must use that image in its page metadata.
